Scouts Activities – April 2018

Assalamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu,

Dear Parent/ Gaurdian,

During the Easter Holidays the mosque is planning to organise a few events for the kids to engage in during their free time. There will be a total of five activities over the course of two weeks. Your child does not need to engage in all/any activity but we would highly recommend they do so as we will be rewarding them with prizes at the end of the two weeks. We have made a sample timetable for the 2 weeks which may change if not enough parents are interested in one or more activities. If you would like your child to take part in any of the activities then tick the applicable box or boxes and complete the application form below.

School Tours

Recently, Canterbury Mosque hosted a number of school tours for various primary schools across Kent. These tours take place every year in March over the course of two weeks. The tours are designed to educate the children about Islam but also consist of a few workshops to engage the children in exciting activities.

The day consists of a welcome and safety talk followed by a Quran recitation which aims to teach the children about the mercy of the Prophet Muhammad. The main verse which we speak to them about is “And We have not sent you (O Muhammad) except as a mercy to the worlds” [21:107]. This is then followed by a Salah demonstration for the morning tours, where the children observe how Muslims pray.

We then get straight into the workshops. We have three workshops; 1. Arabic workshop – where the children learn the Arabic alphabet, numbers 1-10 and how to write their name in Arabic, 2. Dress up workshop – here the children dress up in traditional Islamic attire and learn about the Hijab of men and women, and finally 3. Inventions Workshop – here the children will watch a short video about the inventions in Islamic Golden Ages. We then allow the children to have refreshments which also include an optional date tasting session and finish the day with a Q&A session.

We have had tremendous feedback from both teachers and children and here are two examples of the feedback we received.

Comment below to suggest how we can improve our service or if you would like your school/ child’s school to attend next year.
