A Muslim Day letter

Assalamu alaykum, May the peace and blessings of God be with you,
On the 3rd April, Muslims across the UK were threatened by a letter encouraging UK’s non-muslim residents to be punished based on a point scoring system. Well, it didn’t quite go as planned. On the contrary, thousands of people came together to show solidarity with the Muslims. Across the UK today we saw marches opposing this disgusting letter, we saw human chains being formed around mosques at prayer times and we saw members of the public offering to walk with vulnerable Muslims.
At times like this I feel proud to say that I am a British Muslim. It is days like today that prove to the extremists both ISIS like and Britain First like that no matter how much hatred they spread we the British citizens will not be divided but rather times like this will only bring us closer. We do not know for sure who was responsible for the letter but I’m sure they are regretting their decision now. Not only did they bring communities closer but they were responsible for numerous friendships being formed between the Muslims and non-Muslim communities.
In Canterbury, CANDIFA and EMIC both came to the Mosque to show support to local Muslims and to say #westandtogether. This was a beautiful gesture as despite there not being a real threat in Kent, it is nice to know that we, the Canterbury Muslims, are being supported in Canterbury. On behalf of all the Muslims in Canterbury we would like to say a massive thank you to Mike and the members of CANDIFA and EMIC.
We would also like to thank Kent police and UKC campus security for helping to monitor the Univeristy and Mosque area to allow Muslims to feel comfortable whilst walking around.
Canterbury has always been a very tolerant place to live in and we hope that the Mosque can benefit the wider community whenever possible. We are still building new relationships on a daily basis with several organisations and we aim to build upon them. If you would like to know more about us then please visit contact us page.

Scouts Activities – April 2018

Assalamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu,

Dear Parent/ Gaurdian,

During the Easter Holidays the mosque is planning to organise a few events for the kids to engage in during their free time. There will be a total of five activities over the course of two weeks. Your child does not need to engage in all/any activity but we would highly recommend they do so as we will be rewarding them with prizes at the end of the two weeks. We have made a sample timetable for the 2 weeks which may change if not enough parents are interested in one or more activities. If you would like your child to take part in any of the activities then tick the applicable box or boxes and complete the application form below.

Homeless are welcome

We open our doors to the city’s homeless brothers and sisters.

Last night we opened our doors to the city’s homeless “brothers and sisters” and we continue to do this during the cold wave.

We will be providing evening meals and shelter at Canterbury Mosque, so please spread the word. If you see someone out then get in touch with us or give them a lift to Canterbury Mosque.

We need to do this as a joint effort from all residents of Canterbury. We, the residents, can take it upon ourselves to look after our own. So I urge all the residence of Canterbury the next time you pass by a homeless person get them a warm drink and spend a few minutes talking to them. Let them know that there are warm places for them to go.

Thank you for all your efforts.
