Assalumun Aleykum Brothers and Sisters
Just to inform our community..
Early hours today this wonderful brother passed away. May Allah grant him jannatul al firdous.
Dr Arafa is one of the original mosque trustees. He was a lecturer of Mathematics in what used to be a Polytechnic in South London or Greenwich. He was one of the first or second group of trustees in charge of the donation of about £150,000 in the mid 1980’s by the Saudi postgraduate for the doctorate, student Br Yusif Tubbal, may Allah have mercy on him and reward him. That sum plus other donations enabled us, the third or fourth generation of trustees to buy the big house, closest to the university in Giles Lane, to become the present Canterbury Mosque.
He is originally from Egypt and he came to the UK in 1946 and told me he came on a ship.
He is a PhD who taught at the university for many years
Must have been in his nineties for age when he died.
He was married to an English lady who passed away years ago. Has two sons. (Thanks to Brother Dr Sinan and Brorher Dr Nihad for the information).
Jazakum Allah khiran to you all.
